SCULPTOR

My name is Samantha Newman.

I have a BFA in Sculpture from the

Rhode Island School of Design.

 

My work reexamines traditional sculptural processes through the lens of my Southern upbringing. I am fascinated with physical processes, and the relationship between historically masculine material techniques and gendered discourse. I use traditional materials such as metal and stone in conjunction with domestic found objects to explore sentimental relationships, domestic environments, and representing the female body in non literal manners.
